State BJP rolls up sleeves for LS election
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, March 06 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh has reportedly started preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections likely to be held either in April or May with party's election committee even short-listing probable candidates for the two parliamentary constituencies of the state.

Four each probable candidates for both Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies have been short-listed.

A reliable source informed that discussion on probable candidates for Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency, narrowed down on Union minister of state for education and external affairs Dr RK Ranjan, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi, and Rajya Sabha member Sanajaoba Leishemba with the fourth option undecided pending consensus among the party leaders and the individuals concerned.

Probable candidates for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency include BJP ST Morcha president Mani Kamei, BJP Manipur Pradesh Yuva Morcha vice president and transport advisory committee member of the Ministry of Civil Aviation Savio Khole and two other prominent persons.

However, the source said, there is no finalisation of candidature for both the Parliamentary constituencies.

The second list of BJP candidates was to be finalised during party's CEC to be convened on Wednesday but the meeting at party's head office in New Delhi with likely attendance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was cancelled in the last hour and rescheduled on March 8 .

It is likely that candidatures for two Parliamentary constituencies of Manipur would be finalised in the CEC meet on March 8.The selection of candidates will be based on their political acumen and their commitment to advancing the developmental agenda championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP aims to nominate individuals who possess the necessary expertise and dedication to effectively represent their constituencies and contribute to the progress and welfare of the region, the source added.

The source further informed that BJP Manipur Pradesh had recently established State Election Management Committee comprising 31 distinct sub-committees to streamline the election process effectively.

K Saratkumar Singh has been designated as convener of the committee and minister Th Biswajit Singh has been made as co-convener with committee's chairman yet to be named.

Members of the Manifesto sub-committee include minister Th Basanta Singh, HAC chairman Dinganglung Gangmei, MLA RK Imo Singh and LDA chairman M Asnikumar Singh.

The Resource Mobilisation Management subcommittee will be headed by minister Govindas Konthoujam and assisted by minister L Susindro Meetei while the Booth-level Work sub-committee include general secretary Premananda Meetei assisted by secretary M Priyokumar Singh.

According to the source, the first meeting of the State Election Management Committee was held on March 3at the BJP state headquarters here chaired by president A Sharda Devi.

The meeting set the tone for strategic planning and coordination.

Simultaneously, adhering to directives from the central leadership of the BJP, significant appointments were made.

On March 3, M Asnikumar Singh was appointed as the Prabhari (in-charge) of Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency while MK Preshow Shimray assumed the same role for the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency.

Somatai Shaiza and H Dingo Singh were appointed as conveners for the Outer and Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituencies, respectively.

Furthermore, a closed-door meeting on election management and strategies for the ensuing Lok Sabha Election was held at BJP NE office in Guwahati on March 4 chaired by BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Shantosh.

The meeting had the participation of key functionaries from the state units of Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.
