Imphal, June 23 2023:
Denouncing the IED blast in Kwakta area on July 21 evening that left six Meitei Pangal residents injured, All Manipur Muslim Organisa-tions' Coordinating Commit-tee (AMMOCOC) demanded the government to investigate the explosion and book the perpetrators.
It also asserted that Meitei Pangal community will not remain silent in case of threat to the territorial in-tegrity of Manipur.
Addressing a press meet at its Hatta office here on Friday, AMMOCOC secretary general Wahidur Rahaman said that Meitei Pangal community has been organising peace rallies, sit-in protests and human chain with the stated objective to stop the violence, restore peace and protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Peace continued to elude the state even after 50 days of the violence, the community or-ganised demonstrations in the form of forming human chains and taking out torch rally in areas inhabited by Meitei Pan-gal inside and outside the state, he maintained while express-ing strong resentment that on the same day the peaceful demonstrations were conduct-ed, a SUV fitted with a power-ful bomb went off on an RCC bridge between Kwakta ward no 7 and 9, which left six ci-vilians injured, all from Meitei Pangal community.
The act of triggering the blast smacks of nefarious agenda to target the Meitei Pangal village, Wahidur Rahaman said.
Condemning the blast and terming it as an act of cowardice and advising whoever is responsible not to repeat such acts in future, the secretary general demanded the govern-ment to investigate the incident and book the perpetrators.
He further said that AMMOCOC will intensi-fy its movement to restore peace and expressed hope that the all-party meet convened by Amit Shah will bring positive results.
However, Meitei Pangal community will not remain silent if any decision or act threatens the territorial integrity of the state, he affirmed.
Regarding the Eid festival, Wahidur Ra-haman said it is a sacred occasion for the community but they will celebrate the festival in a low-key affair keeping in view of the unrest situation in the state.
He also appealed to people of the community not to indulge in fanfare while celebrating the festival.
