Imphal, June 23 2023:
A team of Manipur Police removed the bun-kers, which had been set up by Kuki community to block the movement of ve-hicles at Kangpokpi town section of the National Highway-02.However, vehicle movement is yet to resume on the highway stretch.
On Friday, a video was uploaded on social media showing Manipur Police team removing the bun-kers set up on both sides of the highway in the heart of Kangpokpi town.
The video presumably showed the reopening of the highway which had been blockad-ed by the Kukis for many days with bunkers and tree branches at various sec-tions of the highway.
The People's Chronicle, however, is unable to fully confirm whether the bunkers removed were only the ones set up at Kangpokpi town or if all the obstacles along the highway were removed.
When the police and the various truck transporters' associations were contacted in this regard, they conveyed that although the bunkers were removed, no vehicle left to and from Imphal on Fri-day on the national highway through Kangpokpi.
The video uploaded on the social media also showed the Manipur police personnel burning the cement bags which were filled with earth and being used to build the bunker.
Despite appeals by the central leaders to open the blocked highway, it had continued to remain blocked till date.
As such, it is not known how the police team managed to remove the bunkers.
Questions have been raised on whether the bunkers were removed in view of the all-political party meeting called by the union home minister at Delhi on Saturday.
