Screening camp detects inmates with mental health issues

Out of a total of 384 relief camp inmates, thirty were found showing symptoms of mental issues during a free mental health screening camp held today at Andro Loupaochum LP School relief camp.
The camp was organised by the National Mental Health Program Manipur in association with District Mental Health Program (DMHP) Imphal East.
The thirty inmates were provided with the necessary counselling and required medicines.
Medical staff present at today's camp consisted of Dr Athokpam Ranita, SNO, NMHP; Dr Md Sabir Abdus, DNO, DMHP, Imphal East; A Gopendro, Psychiatric social worker, Imphal East and psychiatric nurses Shamila, Nesha and H Amusana, DMHP Imphal East as well as record keeper NMHP L Bishwajit Sharma.
It may be noted that so far free mental health screening camps have been conducted at Naorem Birahari College Khundrakpam; Khundrakpam ASHA Community Hall; Public School Khundrakpam; Ideal College Akampat; Urup Higher Secondary School Litanmakhong; Uyumpok; Sagolmang MLA residence; Ringo Youth Club Keibi; Taret Khul; Chingarel Tejpur; Gouragovinda College, Khurai Sajor Leikai; Ima Chingoibi relief camp; Heingang Kangjeibung Makha Leikai; Keirang Muslim Leikai; Achoibam Deven Singh relief camp; Biramangol College Sawombung; Central High School Chalou and Andro Loupaochum LP Government aided School.
During the course of their numerous free mental health screening camps, the medical team has detected 172 inmates with symptoms of mental issues so far.
NMHP Manipur and DMHP Imphal along with RBSK Imphal East have resolved to organise such screenings in other relief camps in Imphal East district.
