CME on forensic autopsy, renal transplant held

Imphal, February 10 2024:
A Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on 'Virtopsy: A New Phase in Forensic Autopsy' organised by Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology was held at Banting Hall, RIMS, here, on Saturday.
In a release, RIMS media advisor N Phillip Singh informed that the CME programme was inaugurated by RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, RIMS director stated that the CME will be a new beginning of the institute and very important phase of starting digital world.
Virtual autopsy relies on Computer Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologies to capture detailed X-rays and MRI images of the dead body to examine the condition of bones, tissues, organs and blood vessels for clues to find cause and manner of death.
It has lots of advantages compare to traditional autopsies, it added.
The release also conveyed that the inaugural function was also attended by RIMS Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology head professor Th Meera Devi as president and dean (Academic) professor Brogen Singh Akoijam and NEIGRIHMS, Shillong Department of Forensic Medicine head professor AJ Patowary as guests of honour, along with other heads of departments, faculty of medical, dental and college of nursing, invitees, officials, staff and students.
At the programme, professor Memchoubi Ph, professor Brogen Singh Akoijam, professor AI Patowary and Dr S Joychandra Singh gave presentation on 'Traditional Autopsy', 'Paternalistic Attitude of Doctors in Medical Practice', 'Virtopsy: A New Phase in Forensic Autopsy' and 'Imaging Techniques & Forensic Ballistics' respectively, it added.
The release further mentioned that another CME on 'Perioperative Management of Renal Transplant' was organised by Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care in association with Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) Manipur State Branch at its seminar hall on Friday.
Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, Haryana Dr Nikunj Gupta and Shija Hospital.
Imphal Dr T Kennedy Singh delivered a lecture on the topic 'Anaesthetic Management of Patients (both for donors and recipients) during Renal Transplant" and 'Management of Patients after Kidney Transplant' respectively at the programme.
RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS Hospital medical superintendent professor N Sanjib Singh and others invitees also attended the CME, it added.
