Imphal, December 24 2023: An allegation of massive corruption in the recruitment of nurses for Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal has emerged, alleged Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) .

The student body claims it has received reports of candidates paying huge amounts of money, between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 65 lakh.

Speaking to reporters at the office of SSUM at Lalambung Primary School today, its president, S Yaima Meetei said the allegation of corruption in RIMS' nurses recruitment is the new talk of the town amid the current ethnic conflict.

SSUM takes the allegation against RIMS authorities seriously.

People are talking about candidates selling plots of land to pay money for jobs, he claimed.

The rumours and talks about the corruption surrounding the nurses recruitment are believed to be true.

All allegations will be investigated, he said.

COVID-19 pandemic and the current ethnic conflict between communities have plunged Manipur into a deep turmoil.

The disasters have affected the economy.

However, some people who sit at the top are taking huge amounts of money from people for jobs.

All those found involved in the alleged corruption will be brought to justice through the law of the land, Yaima said.

Corruption is a disease that ruins the career of hard-working students and youths, and infests society.

Those who practice corruption are the enemy of the people and the State, he said.

The SSUM president said its doors are open to people who are willing to share proof of the alleged corruption in RIMS' nurses recruitment.

Seeking people's support, Yaima further stated that SSUM will organise a mega public convention on the issue of corruption and illegal drugs in the first week of January next year.

The public convention aims to give teeth to the fight against corruption and illegal drugs, he added.

While the whole of the State is suffering from the brunt of the ethnic conflict, some powerful personalities have given a free hand to some people to do businesses involving intoxicants.

The recent bust of massive Indian Made Foreign Liquor from Imphal East's Takhel by Meira Paibis is proof, he said.

When investigated, Yaima said, the person involved in the business has been found to be related to a powerful person in the Government.

This was not the first case.

Such a bust of liquor and other illegal drugs from relatives of powerful persons have occurred in the past, he said.

Yaima again urged people who have proof of the alleged corruption in RIMS to inform SSUM and support the fight against social evils.
