Imphal, February 10, 2011:
Decrying the act of giving permits to Tata Wingers by Transport Department to operate as passenger carriers between Imphal and Thanga allegedly without valid reasons, all passenger service on the route except Tata Wingers have been suspended from today.
The Thanga Moirang taxi Owners' Society, Thanga Auto Owners' Association, Thanga Motor Owners Co-operative Society, Students' Welfare Association Thanga Tongbram Khoirom, Allied Mothers' Association Thanga Shamukon, Sendra Youth Club, All Rural Ideal Cultural Association, Thanga Wangma Mothers' Union and Meira Paibis of Thanga area have demanded that the permits given to Tata Wingers should be withdrawn immediately.
They maintained that the existing passenger carriers have been serving the people of Thanga quite satisfactorily.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, general secretary of the Youth Moral Organisation Thanga H Ranjit said that 26 auto-rickshaws, 26 Tata DI taxis and six buses are rendering transport service to the people of Thanga at present.
If the Tata Wingers commit the blunder of entering Thanga area just because they possess permits given by the Transport Department, they should be held responsible for any untoward resulting from defying the people's ban on them.
