Imphal, August 06 2023: Assam Rifles seized contraband worth Rs 5.84 crore in two different seizures at Track Junction and Khulmulen Village of Chandel on Aug 4 and 5, said PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement.

According to PIB (Defence Wing), 10.642 kg of heroin worth Rs 5.38 crore and 8.26 kg of poppy worth Rs 56 lakh were seized by Assam Rifles personnel from an abandoned bag and a two wheeler during the searches.

Unfortunately, the release lacks details on how the contraband as seized but summed up with 'seized from an abandoned bag and a two wheeler during the search' .

The seized items have been handed over to Chakpikarong police station, it added.
