Locals prohibit entry of outsiders into villages past 6 pm

Thoubal, August 06 2023: Decrying the attempt to snatch weapons from IRB/MR personnel at Yairipok Kakmayai around 2:30 pm yesterday, a joint public meeting of eight surrounding villages has resolved to prohibit entry of outsiders into the villages past 6 pm .

Yesterday, a joint public meeting of local clubs, organisations and meira paibi associations of Phanjakhong, Chandrakhong, Ningel, Kakmayai, Malom, Leirongthel, Ngamukhoang and Leirongthel Pitra was held presided by Irom Tombi, an elder of the area.

Stating that the incident has disturbed the peaceful environment in the villages, the locals urged people to refrain from carrying out such unwanted incidents in the villages which are located in the vulnerable adjoining areas of Thoubal, Kangpokpi and Kamjong district.

The public meeting which was attended by Kh Sobha, nominee member, Wangkhem Zilla Parishad; S Kumar, nominee Pradhan, Leirongthel Ningel Gram Panchayat and elders of the villages also passed three resolutions.

These are: i) Snatching of weapons from State forces is strongly condemned and prohibited and appeal has been made to desist from such actions, ii) outsiders are prohibited from entering the aforementioned eight villages past 6 pm and iii) appeal to the District Administration to continue stationing the various State security personnel in the villages.
