Senapati district team bags 20 medals in Manipur State Olympic Games

Senapati district sportspersons bagged 20 medals (6 Gold, 4 silver and 10 bronze) in the recently concluded 2nd Manipur State Olympic Games 2022.Altogether 191 players from Senapati district participated in 19 disciplines in the Games which concluded on August 30.Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM) organised a grand reception programme for the Senapati district contingent at Mini Stadium, Senapati on Tuesday evening.
SDOAM president Joram Koveo Woba congratulated all the medallists and the players.
He expressed regret that the district sports association does not have proper sports infrastructure till date.
However, in spite of poor sports infrastructure in the district, the president lauded the district players for their performances.
He further said that based on their performances from the State Games, many players from the district have been selected for national level competitions.
He also encouraged the players of the district to work harder and win more medals in the next Manipur Olympic Games.
The gold medallists were H Ngaopulou (men's 5,000m & 10,000m races), Kushal Augustus (men's long jump), Athiphro Genevieve (women's boxing 54kg), women's basketball team (champion), and women's volleyball team (champion).
The silver medallists were S Hriipune (women's long jump), Lovingson Manah (men's judo), Taiba Boniface (men's high jump), and Hrangaolou Vinah (men's wushu 48kg).The bronze medallists included Rakhoveio Liimai (men's shot put), PS Kholo-urai (men's mukna), Dupola Rong (women's judo), Dune Josophine (women's judo), Willingson (men's wushu), Loli Rakuyio (men's wushu), Veronica Inka & Charaine (women's badminton doubles), L Shepou (110m hurdles), Tubur Sampar Merina (women's boxing), and Chiinmuankim Lhouvum (women's boxing).
It may be mentioned that 2nd edition of the state Olympic Games was conducted after a gap of 34 years.
The first Manipur Olympic Games was held in 1988.The five-day Manipur Olympic Games-2022 was participated by around 6,000 sports persons from all the 16 districts and they competed in 34 disciplines including indigenous sports.
