AR fetes parents of CWG gold medallist S Mirabai Chanu

Imphal, July 31 2022: Mantripukhri Battalion under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised a felicitation ceremony to congratulate the parents of weightlifter Mirabai Chanu on winning the gold medal for India today at the residence of Mirabai at Nongpok Kakching in Imphal Eastdistrict.

Mirabai Chanu won the first gold medal for India at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 with a total of 201 kilograms in women's 49 kilogram weightlifting event.

Mirabai had also won the Gold Medal in 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in Australia, noted PRO of IGAR (S) in a statement.

Parents of Mirabai Chanu and villagers of Nongpok Kakching appreciated the effort of the Assam Rifles, the statement added.
