Churachandpur, September 06 2014 :
A team of Churachandpur police led by inspector MA Salam, OC Churachandpur PS, rescued a Bengal Slow Loris from Khumujamba Meitei Leikai, CCpur.
The People for Animal (PFA) was informed of a Bengal Tiger Loris being kept in captivity for its bone.
Acting on the information, PFA communicated the matter to Inspector Salam who immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the animal.
The animal would be handed over to DFO, CCpur today.
Under Schedule I of the Wild Life Protection Act, the Bengal Slow Loris Tiger is a highly threatened animal with its population dwindling fast.
Rescuing of wildlife is rarely heard in hill areas where poaching is maximum, a press statement issued by PFA trustee stated.
Inspector Salam had, however, rescued number of grey headed parakeet (Parrot) months ago.
The PFA has expressed their gratitude for the contribution of inspector Salam and his team.
PFA further appealed police personnel posted at various districts, especially hill districts to show more seriousness on matters of wildlife protection.
