Imphal, September 06 2014 :
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) has declared that it would field its candidate in the by-election to Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency.
The working committee of the Manipur People's Party has also decided to contest the by-election.
The decision was taken during a meeting held today.
Speaking to media persons at their Moirangkhom office today, MPTCC president Th Shyamkumar said that a meeting of the party held yesterday resolved to field a candidate in the Hiyanglam A/C by-election.
The by-election has been necessitated following the expiry of sitting MLA M Kunjo who was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly on All India Trinamool Congress ticket.
Commenting on the UNC's decision to impose an indefinite ban on movement of vehicles along National and State highways following the killing of two civilians at Ukhrul, Shyamkumar said that he would urge the Government of India to ensure unrestricted flow of essential goods into the State.
Moreover, AITC supremo Mamata Banerjee as well as party MPs would be urged to help in transforming the public demand for introduction of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur into a reality, Shyamkumar added.
