Imphal, September 06 2014 :
In a big blow to Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC), Maibam Chandrabir Singh, son of M Kunjo, ex-MLA Hiyanglam constituency who passed away recently, has served a legal notice to Th Shyamkumar Singh, president of MPTC, demanding payment of Rs 2 crore as compensation within seven days.
Chandrabir has held Shyamkumar responsible for the untimely death of his father 'due to the tortuous act and defamatory statements against him by Th Shyamkumar" .
According to the legal notice, MLA Kunjo was an active member and sincere MLA of AITC having undying loyalty, allegiance and un-sagging morale towards the party.
But to the utter surprise and dismay, he was slapped with a suspension order from Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee of which Th Shyamkumar is the president.
MLA Kunjo never enrolled as a member of the Committee, a party floated by Th Shyamkumar.
In fact, he enrolled as an active member of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress and remained as an MLA of the party till his death.
Further, the legal notice said, MLA Kunjo felt humiliated and suffered mental agony by defamatory statements made by Th Shyamkumar against him which appeared on local dailies on June 15 last.
He was hospitalized and even taken outside the State for medical treatment spending huge amount of money.
In the meantime, Th Shyamkumar filed a petition to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly seeking disqualification of MLA Kunjo from being a member of 10th Manipur legislative Assembly.
This particular news was also very humiliating to him as he felt his name was tarnished and good reputation was lost by the ill-motivated action of Th Shyamkumar.
As a result, his health condition deteriorated and suffered both physically and mentally causing more concern to all his family members.
Thereafter, knowing the wrongfulness, Th Shyamkumar revoked the suspension order on August 9 and withdrawn the petition of disqualification.
But these actions caused more pain and humiliation and as a result, MLA Kunjo who could not bear the wrongful actions anymore died on August 11, the legal notice contended.
It also cautioned that if Th Shyamkumar fails to comply with the notice and pay the compensation amount within the set deadline then he will be sued for recovery of the said compensation with all incidental costs before a competent court.
