North East India Habitat People's Front has demanded recognition of Maharaj Chourjit's youngest son Sana Chahi Ahum also known as Narendrajit Singh, who fought against the British during the 1857 revolt, as a freedom fighter of India.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, Front member Roshan Khumukcham stated that Sana Chahi Ahum joined the fight against the British during the 1857 revolt, and could be regarded as an unseen freedom fighter.
He was exiled to Kala Pani in Andaman & Nicobar Island for his role in the revolt.
Urging the state government to recognise Narendrajit as a freedom fighter, he appealed to the authority concerned to erect a memorial bust/statue of him (Narendrajit) at Jiri Nungphou as well.
