Committee to commemorate day Irabot went UG

As a part of its annual programme to commemorate Hijam Irabot, Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee, Manipur (LINTOC) formed by AMPFA and Irabot Foundation Manipur under the supervision of PPCM will observe September 21, the day when Irabot went underground, by paying tribute at Keibi Manaching.
In a statement, LINTOC convener Kumam Jiten recalled the works of Hijam Irabot, who fought against British colonialism and his sacrificial spirit for the betterment of the society and stressed that the present generation should critically discuss the works and ideas of Irabot.
Pointing out that people have been observing month-long tribute event in September, wherein the birth and death anniversaries and the day when he went underground all happened, Jiten said that the committee will also observe September 21 by paying floral tribute at Keibi Manaching and a discussion programme at Singjamei community hall.
While appealing against calling bandh or blockade on the day, he urged the people to attend the event and pay tribute to the true leader.
In another statement, Irawat Celebration Committee Manipur informed that the committee along with Lamlai Local will observe September 21 as 'Manipur Kankhiba Numit Pungdongbam Thoudok' to commemorate Hijam Irabot, Pheiroijam Kanhaimacha and followers of Irabot at Irabot Park, Chalou Lamlai and memorial sites of Pundongbam incident.
Meanwhile, Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India informed that the month-long 126th Irabot event was organised at four places on Sunday.
Irabot Celebration Committee, Lamshang Local Council observed month-long birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot at Kachikhul community hall, Lamshang; Patsoi Local Council at Meeyamgi Shanglen located at Khamnam Leirak; Bishnupur Local Council at Nachou village; and Thoubal Local Celebration Committee at Thoubal Kshetri Shanglen.
Paying of floral tributes and discussing the works and ideas of Irabot marked the observance events.
The observance was Kshetri Shanglen was attended by CPI Manipur State Council executive member S Sorojini, member E Lukhoi, local executive member H Noren and local executive member Ak Jugeshwar among others.
The life and works of Irabot were discussed during the observance and floral tributes were paid to photo of Irabot.
On the other-hand, Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching organised a literary programme on Irabot at Library and Information Centre, Kakching auditorium, Kakching Phoushupat Leikai.
The programme was attended by Samiti vice president Mayanglambam Kunjakesho and former president Kengba Yengkhom as presidium members.
In all, 14 writers read their poems, short stories and essays based on Irabot on the occasion.
