'No patriotic writer will distort history'

Former rebel leader RK Sanayaima (Meghen) has asserted that no patriotic writer will ever misinterpret or distort the history of Manipur.
Sanayaima was speaking at the inaugural function of a three-day international Writers' Meet opened today at the Manipur University, Centenary Hall.
He pointed out that Manipur has a written history spanning over 2000 years.
No writer who has fair knowledge of the blood and sweat sacrificed in building Manipuri Nation would ever try to distort or misinterpret the history of the land, Sanayaima asserted.
Those writers who have been attempting to distort the history of Manipur shares no love for the motherland.
On the contrary, they are adversaries of the indigenous people, he said.
The three-day International Literary cum Cultural Event on History, Culture and Literature of Manipur and Diaspora is being jointly organised by the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) and five different literary organisations.
RK Sanayaima also underscored the roles and contributions of writers in shaping the destiny of a Nation.
He said that writers need to shoulder greater responsibilities in Nations like Manipur which witnessed a phase of downfall and their identities are under threat.
If the writers can lead the society in the right direction after understanding the National issues, they can definitely build a vibrant Nation, the former rebel leader said.
He also reminded that 'pen is mightier
than sword' .
Apunba Khorirolgi Malemgi Lup president Waikhom Amuchou Meitei, MSME National Board member Robin Blackie, Short Story Society India president L Gulap ad literary and social activist KC Mangang from Hojai attended the opening function as presidium members.
The literary meet is joint organised by MUSU, Apunba Khorirolgi Malemgi Lup, Manipur Sahitya Parishad Thoubal, Ningolkhut Wangjing and Malemgi Yelhoulon Aphong Lup, Mayang Imphal Maibam.
Apart from writers from the State, their colleagues from Assam, Bangladesh and Tripura are participating in the literary meet.
