National seminar on 'Dialogue between Hinduism and Buddhism in the North East' kicks off

Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Professor Naorem Lokendra has opined that people involved with the University should conduct more research on the topic of Manipuri culture.
The Vice-Chancellor was speaking at the launch of the two-day national seminar on 'Dialogue between Hinduism and Buddhism in the North East' held at the Court hall of Manipur University today.
The seminar will conclude on September 20 .
It may be noted that the seminar was jointly organised by Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Research Centre and the Department of Philosophy.
Speaking as the functional president of the event, Professor Naorem Lokendra stated that Manipuri people have made significant contributions in the field of art and culture and sports.
He continued to say that the Department of Manipuri Dance was established under the XI Plan of UGC.
Aside from this, the Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Centre for Studies was set up providing the faculty and the scholars with the opportunity to learn and conduct more research in the fields of Vaishnavism, Manipuri culture and performing arts.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted that Manipuris have interacted with various different cultures and people throughout the centuries which impacted and expanded the existing Manipuri culture.
He then lauded Rajarshi Bhagyachandra as a king who was also a fighter, thinker and innovator.
Other dignitaries present at the event include RK Khrimey, former MP, Arunachal Pradesh; Dr Ashish Bhave, Director, Centre for North east Studies and Professor Aruna Devi, Dean, School of Humanities, Manipur University.
