Thoubal, September 19 2022:
Manipur Development Society (MDS) chairman and Wangjing-Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen inaugurated a newly installed plastic crusher machine at Wangjing-Lamding Municipal Council (WLMC) new office complex on Monday.
The machine is capable of crushing single-use plastics and other types of plastics into materials of common utility.
The machine is the first to be installed among the municipal councils and nagar panchayats of the state for solid waste management.
The inaugural function of opening of 'Garbage and solid waste management facility centre' organised by WLMC was attended by MLA Paonam Brojen as chief guest and WLMC former chairperson P Roni as president, while former councillors N Binoi, H Gourango, T Biswmitra and T Noren were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Brojen confided about plans to make areas under WLMC as 'planned city' and urged all to support him in this endeavour.
He mentioned that until people adopt the habit of keeping their surroundings clean, development cannot be achieved.
Raising concern over climate change and environmental degradation, the MLA stressed that time has come to make plans for facing such problems.
Steps have already been taken in the constituency in this regard with digging of two ponds of 40 'Pari' which will help in water conservation.
Moreover, water supply schemes of Wangjing and Kairembikhok will soon be completed and people are being encouraged to plant tree saplings and protect their environment, he said.
Brojen also praised the 'Go Clean' initiative taken up by some likeminded individuals of Wangjing Lamding and further exhorted the people to continue their support to the WLMC which has twice received award under Swachh Bharat for being the most-clean municipality in North East region.
Later, the MLA distributed loan authorisation letters to select self-help groups under the municipal council.
The programme was also attended by WLMC executive officer Awungshi Phungrei.
