Imphal, October 10 2015 :
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has said that the State Government must be held responsible for the recent quashing of appointment of more than 1000 primary school teachers by the High Court of Manipur.
Speaking to reporters, DESAM president M Angamba said that the Court had ordered to conduct a fresh interview of these posts within two months citing irregularities in the earlier recruitment process.
He demanded that necessary action be taken against the officers and Ministers responsible for this mess.
Angamba said that the notification of recruitment of 1603 primary teachers was issued in 2006 and written examination was held in 2007 .
He further said that interview was held in 2009 and the result was announced the same year while appointment orders were issued to the successful candidates in November 2011 .
However, before the appointment orders were issued, a large number of candidates alleged that there were lots of irregularities in the recruitment process.
He said that 326 OBC candidates were included in list of selected candidates in the eleventh hour although they were left out in the original list prepared earlier.
As such, some candidates filed a writ petition at the High Court stating that there were irregularities in the recruitment process, he added.
Later, an inquiry committee was constituted with the then Chief Secretary as the Chairman to probe the matter.
On the otherhand, this inquiry committee constituted a review committee headed by the Director of Education (S) to look into the alleged mess.
However, these committees came to a conclusion that there were no such wrongdoings in the recruitment process as accused by some candidates in the writ petition.
Acting on this report of the committee, the State Government issued appointment orders to 1603 selected candidates.
Although, these primary teachers have been serving in different schools since the past four years, the High Court quashed the appointment of these teachers citing irregularities in the recruitment process recently.
Angamba said that such an embarrassing instance emerged due to the corrupt and self centric practices of the State Government.
He also questioned how such irregularities could not be detected by the Government appointed inquiry and review committees on time.
It would not be wrong to say that the State Government and the Department concerned have victimised the selected candidates, he said and added that DESAM would not remain silent if these teachers erupt in protest.
