IMPHAL: While expressing dis-satisfaction over the govern-ment's initiatives to ease the turmoil in the state, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra has demanded to translate resolutions adopt-ed during the recent all-political party meeting into actions.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhawan here on Monday, Meghachandra ex-pressed grave concern over outbreak of communal vi-olence between Meetei and Kuki communities on May 3 and contended that the tur-moil is due to lapses on the part of the Home Department.
The failure of the government to prevent clashes between the two communities is ques-tionable, he opined, adding that the intelligence agencies under the government is not dependable.
While appealing to the people to control emotion, he contended that the ini-tiative of the government to ease communal tension is not up to the expectation.
He stated that the all-po-litical party meeting was convened but the govern-ment failed to translate the resolution of the meeting into action.
The resolution included formation of peace committees under MLAs and ex-MLAs.
Urging the government to accept its shortcomings, he assured of extending all pos-sible help to the government.
In addition to 35,000 state forces including MR, IRB and police, 14,000 central para military forces have been de-ployed in the state, he pointed out, while questioning what kind of drama is being played by the government as riot vic-tims could not be evacuated completely till now.
He further maintained that students in need of traveling outside the state for studying could not avail flight tickets and even if it is available the price is very high.
As such, the government should contact civil aviation ministry and take due initiative regarding the matter.
Moreover, the price of essential items is being hiked thereby causing tremendous inconveniences to the people, he added.
Regarding the invocation of Article 355 in the state, he enquired why the gov-ernment has failed to make a clear status about it to the people.
While quoting secu-rity advisor Kuldiep Singh as saying that Article 355 has been not enforced in the state, the Congress president sug-gested the government clear the confusion.
Meghachandra further ap-pealed to the people to join hands in bringing peace and normalcy in the state.
