Imphal, May 09 2023:
After inter-state trans-portation of goods along the national highways ceased from May 3 onwards due to the vio-lent clash, 21 tankers of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) arrived here under strict security cover.
Source said that protes-tors blocked the highway and threatened to burn the tank-ers at Kangpokpi.
However, following intervention from security escorts, the tankers resumed their journey and reached Imphal safely.
How-ever, other trucks carrying food items and petroleum products are still left strand-ed as violent protestors forced them to return by threatening to attack them.
Protestors are still checking trucks as well as other vehicles to prevent transportation of essential commodities.
So far, there is no measure taken up to restore movement of essential com-modities along the highway from the government's side.
On the other hand, stock of petroleum products is depleting in the government oil depot at Malom.
There is stock of only 13 days for petrol and 16 for diesel.
Unless the government clears the highway and facil-itates movement of essential commodities, the fuel stock will exhaust within short notice, the source added.
