Many mourn demise of Padmashri Naba Wareppa

Condolences continue to pour in mourning the unfortunate demise of noted playwright and Padmashri awardee Naba Wareppa who passed away yesterday at the age of 82 years.
In this regard, Sangai Artist Association organised a condolence meeting at the office of the Association located at Paona Keithel.
Speaking on the occasion, Iboyaima Khuman, Shumang Leela artiste, Sangai Artist Association expressed grief upon the passing of the renowned theatre personality and stated that with his demise a bounty of knowledge in the field of theatre that artists could learn from has been erased.
He also shared that the playwright had provided direction in a majority of the plays performed by the Association such as Maibado Maibido Mapuroibado (I, II); Unagi Tajmahal; Mou Ama Mangkhre (I, II) and Laklaroi Amuk Yeningtha, which bagged the second prize at the Shumang Leela Festival 2022 organised by the State Kala Akademi.
The gathering further observed a minute of silence to mourn the passing of Naba Wareppa and shared in the grief of the bereaved family.
Theatre Mirror too mourned the demise of the renowned personality and former Director, Padmashri Naba Wareppa by holding a condolence meeting.
Theatre Mirror in a press note said that the attendees recounted his significant contributions for the promotion of drama, theatre and other related art forms in the State.
Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal also organised a condolence meeting at their office located in Paona Keithel today.
The gathering condoled the death of the Natya Bhushan awardee by observing a two minute silence and offering prayers for the soul of the deceased to rest in eternal peace.
Banian Repertory Theatre too joined in conducting a condolence meeting today which was attended by executive members and artistes of the Repertory.
The participating individuals also offered their sincerest condolences, maintained a 2 minute silence and shared in the grief of the deceased's family.
Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Manipur State Council Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) and Tapasya (A centre for performing arts) have also conveyed their deepest sympathies.
In a statement, Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association lauded the fact that the playwright had contributed immensely in the undertakings of the Association as well as in the larger field of Art and Culture.
MSC/CPI highlighted the achievements of the Padmashri awardee in their release stating that the theatre personality had been honoured with the Best Actor Award a total of seven times and Best Director Award twelve times.
TAPASYA (A centre for performing arts) organised a condolence meeting at their rehearsal hall located in Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai.
Tapasya maintained that the demise of Padmashri Naba Wareppa will leave behind a permanent void in the fabric of Manipur culture.
Oinam Baldeva Memorial Trust, Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai and Childrens' Cultural Centre Manipur, Keishamthong Hodam Leirak also joined in condoling the demise of the eminent personality by observing condolence meeting.
