Imphal, January 09 2023:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has denounced some private schools for conducting their final examination in November and December despite clear direction from the State Government to hold said examinations in February 2023 .
It may be noted that the Education (S) Department had issued the notification in cognizance of the negative impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on the student community and to recoup the academic losses.
This was shared by S Yaima, president, SSUM during a press conference held at Lalambung High School this afternoon.
Speaking to media persons, he stated that instead of acknowledging the academic losses suffered by students, these private schools had conducted the final examinations early and showed their indifference to the student community as well as the State directive.
As such he called upon the State Government and the Education Department to clarify what actions will be taken up against such private schools who have flouted regulations.
Further, he informed that SSUM will launch an inspection across numerous private schools to determine which ones have acted against the instruction of the Education Department.
The SSUM president also sought the support of the parents and guardians of school students in this regard.
According to the notification issued by Education (S), schools were instructed to conduct the final examination for classes I to IX between February 1 to 15 in view of the late start of the 2022-2023 academic session due to the pandemic and to compensate for the learning loss, the president said.
Aside from acting against this instruction, SSUM has received complaints that some schools have also finished the admission process for the 2023-2024 academic session, while others have scheduled the final examination in the month of January, S Yaima alleged.
Thus, he asserted that SSUM will not remain mum in view of these developments that have potential to cause damage to the students by depriving them of months of academic learning.
