Imphal, January 09 2023:
RK Meghen, who is former chairman of a UG group, has stressed the need for promoting a sense of patriotism among the people of Meetei community in order to secure the future of the community.
Interacting with media persons after offering tributes to the statue of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at Langthabal on the occasion of death anniversary observance of the king on Monday, Meghen said that it is disheartening to see Meetei community, which was once a resolute community, living a spineless life.
While stating that huge area of Manipur similar to the size of Imphal valley will be annexed into Myanmar once the ongoing border fencing work is completed, he also pointed out that influx of non-locals has always been a threat to the small communities of Manipur, especially the Meeteis.
Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) has also been ineffective in protecting the indigenous people and it will need a public movement to make it effective, Meghen contended.
He also offered floral tributes to the statues of kings Nara Singh and Sana Herachandra.
