Govindas kicks off 42nd CSDSA Meet 2023

The 42nd CSDSA Meet-2023 Men's Football Tournament organised by Chakpikarong Sub Division Sporting Association (CSDSA) commenced from Monday at Chakpikarong playground, Chandel district.
Youth affairs and sports minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chandel MLA Ss Olish and Manipur Olympic Association president & Advisor to CM MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam attended the opening ceremony of the tournament as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Altogether 32 teams are participating in the tournament and the first match will be played on Tuesday at 10.30 am between Salluk YC and Dangkhu YC, followed by the second between Phungchung YC and P Ralringkhu YC at 12.30 pm and the third match between Lambung YCC and Chakpikarong Youngster at 2.30 pm.
Speaking on the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam conveyed that he has always been a strong supporter of sports even though he has never been a player.
It was during his tenure as the YAS minister in the past that district sports complexes were set up in every district, he said.
Assuring his continued support towards promotion of sports and players, he urged sports associations to give prior information to the YAS department if they are planning to organise major tournaments so that the department could provide support to them.
The minister also spoke on the emerging opportunities in sports, which is now considered as a good career option, and mentioned about the initiatives being taken up by the Biren government to promote sports and players in the state.
He also cited Olympian Park as a clear example of the government's commitment towards promoting sports and sportspersons.
Govindas also elaborated on the development initiatives being taken up by the Biren government under the aegis of PM Modi to bring uniform development in the state, and called for unity among the people of the state.
The government is in the process to develop roads in border and interior areas of the state since road connectivity is one of the foremost needs for bringing development.
Union home minister Amit Shah, during his state visit, declared several road projects, he said and appealed to the people to support the government in executing such projects.
He also called for support from villagers and village chiefs in the government's War on Drugs campaign keeping in view of the negative impact of drugs and illegal poppy cultivation.
