Thoubal, January 09 2023:
Stating that if our brave ancestors had not defeated Awa (Burmese) the present state of Manipur would be long gone, Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba has appealed to the people to follow footsteps of Manipuri forefathers and unitedly protect the state.
Speaking as chief guest of the "Chahi 7 Khuntakpa (1819-1826)" Memorial Programme organised by Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) at Lilong Haoreibi College multipurpose hall on Monday.
MP Sanajaoba opined that if such patriotic events are organised by CSOs and people then the spirit of patriotism will definitely develop in the present and future society.
He pointed out that Maharaj Gambhir Singh had established 'Manipur Levy' to drive away Awa from Manipur which was also joined in by various leaders from Meitei Pangal community, while adding that similarly, the present generation should live harmoniously with each other and strive to safeguard the state from any harm.
The RS MP also observed that instead of dividing our selves by making claims over lands, people of the state should learn from the sacrifices of our brave ancestors and live with unity.
In the past, wars were physically fought but now the state is fighting an invisible war.
The present 'War on Drugs' is one such invisible war and as such all must work against the drug menace and save humanity from extinction, he exhorted.
Speaking as guest of honour, advisor to CM and retired IPS Sarangthem Manaobi alias Khoiranthaba recounted that it was the united force of Meetei and Meitei Pangal that freed Manipur from the occupation force of Awa.
Hence, to restore unity between the two communities, historical event of "Chahi 7 Khuntakpa (1819-1826) " should be remembered, he added.
