Kite festival

For the first time in the State, a grand kite festival was held today at Pari-Puri Pukkei Eco-Tourism Centre, Tellou Paokhun hills, Imphal East district.
The kite festival jointly organised by the Pari-Puri Pukkei Eco-Tourism Centre and the Manipur Kite Fliers' Club was aimed at forging unity and restoring communal harmony among different communities of Manipur.
Pari-Puri Pukkei Eco-Tourism Centre president Ng Kangjiya Mangang said that the kite festival may also be seen as a promotional event of the eco-tourism centre which would be developed as a living museum where ancient traditions, customs, attires and food habits of different indigenous communities would be displayed.

Replicas of traditional houses of 42 tribes of Manipur would be built at the eco-tourism centre and all the household articles used in olden times by different tribes would be exhibited at their respective houses.
A replica of Meitei traditional house having nine rooms would also be built at the centre.
The centre would be developed in such a way that it can provide maximum inputs to research works on different communities of Manipur, Kangjiya said.
Tangkhul lwungnao Long president Sweeten Raihing said, "Just like kites flying freely in the air, hill people and plain people of Manipur should let their spirits fly together in search of greater knowledge and wisdom" .
The common history and common origin of hill people and plain people should be explored collectively.
Hill people and plain people can never part from each other, Sweeten Raihing said.
Kite festival chairman L Ingocha said that the festival was organised with a view to promote unity and harmony among different communities of Manipur.
The festival also featured traditional dance and music items of different communities of Manipur.
