Ima Kombi remembered on death anniv

Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Manipur observed the 11th death anniversary of Ima Kombi today.
Groups of people visited the site at PDA Complex at Lamphel where she was cremated to pay their tributes.
The main observation was held later at Thau Ground, Thangmeiband.
The president of the host organisation Longjam Memchoubi presided over the gathering where president of MAPWAK Chanabam Ibemnungshi, advisor of WOSED, Akoijam Janaki Leima, president of AMKIL president Ph Sakhi Leima and president of KANGLAMEI Yumnam Leirik Leima were the guests of honour.
In her address, RK Landhoni presented a brief life sketch of the prominent leader of the Meira paibi movement.
She stated that the leader who was born on January 5, 1932 at Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi Konjeng Leikai developed a fondness for social work at an early age and later made up her mind to dedicate her entire life in the service of humanity and to remain unmarried to focus on her objective.
She remembered the notable contribution of Ima Kombi in confronting the excessive activities of the security forcing during counter insurgency operations and her brave fights on behalf of the women who were raped.
Ima Kombi played an instrumental role in the formation of the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Manipur at Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai on August 25, 1985 with the aim of fighting the oppressive policies of the ruling authorities, she added.
Longjam Memchoubi praised Ima Kombi as a diligent woman who put the interest of the land above everything else.
We should walk in her footsteps and usher peace and tranquility, she added.
