Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) organised a discussion session on the topic, 'Healthcare system in Manipur : Relation between doctors, nurses and patients' at Manipur Press Club today.
JNIMS Director Prof M Shyamo, Directorate of Health Services Additional Director (MD) P Shyamsundar, HERICOUN president Longjam Ratankumar and Centre for Myanmar and South East Asian Studies Director Prof W Nabakumar were the presidium members of the discussion session.
Speaking as a resource person, Shija hospital chairman-cum-managing director Dr Kh Palin said that there is need to maintain trust between the people working in the healthcare sector and the general public.
Hospital staff and doctors must work with dedication and maintain transparency to gain people's confidence, he added.
Saying that it is high time to give attention to promotion of health sector, Dr Palin said that there is need to make Manipur a medical destination.
RIMS Surgery Department Head Prof GS Moirangthem said that people must understand what medical negligence is.
Paying no attention to patients, ignoring medical history of patients and prescribing medicines through imagination are all parts of medical negligence, he added.
Prof W Nabakumar was the moderator of the discussion session.
