Kangpokpi (Senapati), February 01 2015:
The United Peoples' Front (UPF), one of the signatories of the Suspension of Operation pact between the Kuki underground organisations and the Government of India, has strongly condemned the alleged Kadangband fake encounter by the 8 Assam Rifles on January 28 .
A statement issued by Robinson Chongloi, information secretary, UPF stated that the ground rules of SoO permit movement of leaders and cadres in civilian clothes while adding that Robert Hesei and a few delegates of KNF were sent to attend a meeting with social leaders in Kangchup village when they were stopped on the way and killed by 8 AR personnel.
The statement accused the 8 Assam Rifles of trying to dub the incident as an encounter to be rewarded by the Government of India.
The UPF leader also alleged that the officers of 8 Assam Rifles failed to respect human rights nor regard the SoO pact between UPF and the Government of India.
"However, UPF would like to reiterate that the SoO ground rules apply for both Kuki revolutionary groups as well as the Indian security forces.
We cannot continue to live under this reign of terror in constant fear," said Robinson Chongloi.
While conveying its support to the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged fake encounter, the statement appealed to all SoO signatories and the general public to raise their voice against the increasing human rights violations.
"Unless a magistrial inquiry is conducted and befitting punishment is given to the guilty officers of 8 AR, UPF would make sure that justice is served to the deceased victims," warned Robinson.
