International Human Rights Day observation : Protection of Human Rights deliberated

The International Human Rights Day was observed widely across the State today to commemorate the day when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 .
The Oriental College, Imphal observed International Human Rights Day organized by the Department of Political Science in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the College under the theme 'Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All' .
Principal Dr S Ranjit Singh; Th Rebabati Devi, HOD Political Science and M Lokendro Singh, HOD, Department of Chemistry and President, AMCTA graced the function as the presidium members, said a press release by the Principal of the College.

Tesha Teshanovic, Strategic Advisor, Swift Motion, Journalist and Political Analyst from Belgrade, Serbia and Kongkham Biplob Singha, Assistant Professor of Political Science Department attended as the resource persons in the hybrid event.
Tesha Teshanovic deliberated on 'The role of human rights in development of soft power in the European Union'.
He also highlighted major human rights issues around the world including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the current refugee crisis confronting EU nations.
Kongkham Biplob spoke at length on the topic 'Revisiting Violence as Violation of Rights- A Historical Overview'.
While emphasizing the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), 1948, he focused on historic and contemporary instances of rights violations around the world that necessitated greater awareness and vigilance among individuals and communities alike.
The event was held in hybrid mode and participated by students and teachers of the College and others from both Manipur and Belgrade, Serbia, added the release.
The Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipur organised the International Human Rights Day observance at the conference hall of All Manipur United Club Organisation at Kwakeithel today.
Senior Advocate and former acting Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission, Khaidem Mani; COHR Manipur Chairman Phulindro Konsam; AMUCO Advisor Ito Tongbram and Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Vice-president Soraisam Memcha Devi graced the programme as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Khaidem Mani maintained that Human Rights Day observance is one of the most important days since it has great significance when it comes to protection and promotion of basic human rights.
All Manipur Lady Advocates Association (AMLAA) also observed the day at Ladies Bar Uripok Cheirap Court complex in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authorities Imphal West.
The programme was attended by Puyam Tomcha President All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA), Chanam Kiranbala President (AMLAA) and Ph Sundari, former President AMLAA as presidium members.
Advocate L Rebecca Devi and Advocate Ch Nanda Devi spoke as resource persons of the programme wherein they highlighted the importance of protection of fundamental human rights.
