Oriental College observes Human Rights Day

Imphal, December 10 2022:
Oriental College (Autonomous), Imphal also observed International Human Rights Day 2022 with the observance function organised by its Department of Political Science in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
College principal Dr S Ranjit Singh, Political Science HOD Th Rebabati Devi and Chemistry HOD M Lokendro Singh, who is also AMCTA president, attended the observance as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Swift Motion strategic advisor Tesha Teshanovic, who is also a journalist and political analyst from Belgrade in Serbia, and Political Science assistant professor Kongkham Biplob Singh were resource persons of the observance.
Tesha Teshanovic deliberated on 'The role of human rights in development of soft power in the European Union'.
He also highlighted major human rights issues around the world including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and current refugee crisis confronting EU nations.
Meanwhile, Kongkham Biplob spoke at length on the topic 'Revisiting Violence as Violation of Rights - A Historical Overview'.
While emphasising the significance of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), 1948, he focused on historic and contemporary instances of rights violations around the world that necessitated greater awareness and vigilance among individuals and communities alike, said the release.
The event was held in a hybrid mode (online and offline) and participated by students and teachers of the college and others from both Manipur and Belgrade, Serbia.
