Imphal, December 10 2022:
While asserting that Khurai Ahongpung is one of the four sacred sites (Pung) where annual rituals are being conducting for wellbeing of not only people of the state but also for the world, Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) has said there is no reason to have conflict over Khurai Ahongpung.
According to a statement of UKAL, Khurai Ahongpung (Marjing), Wangkhei Soudang Pung (Wangburel), Tera Wangthonbi Pung (Koubru) and Kakwa Lamtai Pung (Thangjing) have been in existence since time immemorial and all these sacred sites are immovable.
However, self-styled activities of people residing around the sites and encroachment led to unwanted incidents in surrounding areas of all the 'Pung' and the incident at Khurai Ahongei some days back was the latest one.
Considering importance of Khurai Ahongpung, the state government declared the sacred site as historical monument and archaeological site under sub-section (3) of Section 4 of the Manipur Ancient & Historical Monument and Archaeological Sites & Reforms Act, 1976, UKAL pointed out, while urging the government to protect the historical site in accordance with the Act.
It also appealed to Teli people residing around Khurai Ahongpung site to understand importance of the sacred site.
