16 days of activism against gender-based violence ends

The closing ceremony of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence organised by One Stop Centre, Manipur (16 districts) and Social Welfare Department was held today at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam lauded the organisers for spreading awareness to end gender based violence by carrying out poster and signature campaigns.
Saying that crime against women and children is a widespread phenomenon though humanity has advanced considerably over the last few decades, the Minister maintained that Manipur was enlisted among the States which had the highest rate of domestic violence in the report of the Ministry concerned and it was shameful.
Govindas then appealed to the gatherings to stand up against crime against women.
Further stating that women in Manipur have been playing a big role in maintaining the socio economy of Manipur and excel in many fields, the Minister continued that he was elated to see One Stop Centre in Manipur helping the victims of domestic violence.
He appealed to the authority concerned to take the case registered at One Stop Centre with utmost seriousness and urgency and utilise the Nirbhaya Fund properly to protect the dignity and ensure safety of women in India.
Social Welfare Minister H Dingo, on the other hand, urged all the staff of the Social Welfare Department to work sincerely and with commitment to provide better services to the people.
Saying that opening One Stop Centre in all the 16 districts is a commendable step, he added that "we must work together to prevent gender based violence which is ever increasing in Manipur" .
Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women, Ulka Salam and Joint Director of Social Welfare Department, Bantee Singh also attended the programme.
