Imphal, January 05 2023:
The final photo electoral rolls of the 60 Assembly Constituencies of Manipur were published today.
Briefing media persons after publishing the final photo electoral rolls at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Lamphelpat, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Naorem Praveen informed that the total number of electors listed in the electoral rolls is 20,57,854 .
This figure includes 9,95,208 males, 10,62,426 females and 220 third gender.
The gender ratio is 1000:1068 which was 1000: 1066 in the draft photo electoral rolls.
The change in the gender ratio indicates growth of female voters, Praveen said.
As indicated by the electors to population ratio, 57.35 per cent of the State's population has been listed in the electoral rolls.
The previous corresponding figure was 57.70 per cent.
The total number of electors listed in the electoral rolls declined following removal of duplicates, shifted and expired voters, said the Addl CEO.
As per the previous edition of the electoral rolls, the total number of polling stations was 2959.However, according to the final photo electoral rolls published, the total number of polling stations has declined by four to 2955 .
The total number of polling stations has declined by four because Imphal East has one more polling station while five polling stations have been scrapped in Churachandpur district, he said.
Earlier, enlistment of young voters was quite low but the results of the series of voter awareness programmes and literacy programmes which started around 2000 under the Election Commission of India are now visible in the final electoral rolls, Praveen said.
Of the 57.35 per cent of the State's total population enlisted in the electoral rolls, young voters in the age group of 18-19 constitute 1.30 per cent.
According to data provided by the Election Commission of India, there are 1,33,000 duplicate voters in the State.
This data is being verified in each and every district, he said.
So far, the verification process has been completed by 40.70 per cent.
The process has been fully completed in Jiribam district which has only one Assembly segment.
The verification process has been completed by 93.8 per cent in Bishnupur district which has six Assembly segments and by 13.7 per cent in Tamenglong district which has two Assembly segments.
The total number of voters who are listed in more than one Assembly segment is 1,33,553 .
All these cases are being verified by DEOs, EROs and BLOs.
A target has been already set to complete the whole verification exercise by the next qualifying year (April 1), Praveen continued.
Once the verification exercise is fully completed, all the 60 Assembly segments would have very clear and error-free electoral rolls, he asserted.
Even though enrolment of young voters has improved, the figure expected in line with the projected population has not been reached.
The total number of young voters (18-19 years) expected to be enrolled in the electoral rolls is 1,46,301 but only 46,586 have been enrolled so far.
The total number of voters in the age group of 20-29 expected to be enrolled in the electoral rolls is 6,95,725 but the actual number enlisted so far is 4,54,723, Praveen said.
He added that it needs cooperation of all the stakeholders in enlisting all the eligible persons in the electoral rolls.
