Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) achieved a historic milestone by performing the 75th kidney transplant on December 7, 2022 .
Among the 75 patients, 68 are from Manipur, 6 from Nagaland and one from Myanmar.
The transplantations were carried out by a team of experts from Shija Kidney Centre, consisting of Dr Guliver Potsangbam, Consultant Nephrologist; Dr Somorendro Paonam, Consultant Urologist & Renal Transplant Surgeon; Dr Mahele Maharabam, Consultant Urologist; the anesthesiologist team and other support staff of Shija, said a press release by Shija Hospitals.
The hospital has completed 75 kidney transplants successfully till date including one ABO-incompatible transplant, 1st in North East India.
The 75th transplant recipient was a 37-year-old woman from Imphal West District whose husband donated the organ.
After complete recovery, the donor and recipient have been discharged from the hospital on December 21, 2022 .
It may be noted that the first kidney transplant in Manipur was conducted at Shija in August 2016.Since then, Shija's transplant waiting list has grown and during the COVID-19 pandemic, transplant operations were suspended from March 2020 to March 2021 and again from May 2021 to September 2021, but it has been resumed now.
The hospital has provided 55520 CMHT and 32700 PMJAY dialysis till date.
