SHRI to have liver transplant facility soon: Dr Kh Palin

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) Pvt Ltd managing director Dr Kh Palin has informed that it will soon be able to carry out liver transplants.
Announcing this during a press meet held at the conference hall of the hospital on Thursday, Dr Palin said that with the availability of liver transplant facility in the hospital, the health care sector of the state will take a new turn for the better.
Patients would no longer need to travel outside the state to undergo liver transplantation procedure.
Pointing out that the hospital has already been providing kidney trans plantation facilities, he recounted that the first kidney transplant was carried out in the hospital in August, 2016.So far, 75 patients including 68 from Manipur have successfully undergone kidney transplantation in the hospital, with the last one carried out on a 37-year old female patient on December 7 last.
The patient was dis charged two weeks after on December 21, Shija is one of the hospitals empanelled under CMHT and PMJAY offer ing treatment facilities for various diseases including those related to kidney.
As of now, around 55,520 patients under CMHT and 32,700 patients under PMJAY have availed dialysis treatment.
Thus, Shija lias been providing medical care continuously, while also focusing on developing the state's potential in medical tourism, Dr Palin stated, while informing that efforts are on for holding a medical conclave by March this year.
On the other-hand, SHRI Business Development and Operations deputy general manager Santosh Shekhar informed that out of the 75 patients who underwent kidney transplantation so far, six were from Nagaland and one from Myanmar.
The transplantations were carried out by a team of experts from Shija Kidney Centre consisting of Consultant Nephrologist Dr Guliver Potsangbam; Consultant Urologist & Renal Transplant Surgeon Dr Somorendro Paonam; Consultant Urologist, SHRI Dr Mahele Maharabam; the anaesthesiologist team and other support staffers, Santosh added.
The 75th transplant recipient, a 37-year-old woman from Imphal West district, received the organ from her husband, Santosh informed, adding that both donor and recipient were discharged on December 21, 2022.Informing that the hospital has provided 55,520 CMHT and 32,700 PMJAY dialysis services till date, he pointed out that Shija has been at the forefront of promoting Manipur as a destination for medical tourism.

The Shija Kidney Centre follows the guidelines for transplantation strictly, and no unethical practices are encouraged in any form, Santosh maintained, while also adding that the centre will start kidney transplantation from deceased or cadaveric donor shortly.
Shija is also recognized as a referral centre by the governments of Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram for treatment, including renal transplant.
