Jwalamukhi Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a successful surrender of 11 UG cadres of different groups with arms, explosives and other war like stores and provided them with a new lease of life to join the mainstream during a surrender ceremony held at Motbung Post, Kangpokpi district on Thursday.
According to an AR statement, a team of COB Kangkokpi had on August 10, 2022 rescued four Manipuri civilians who were held hostages by KNF-N cadres.
In the follow up operations while interacting with the rescued civilians it came to light that a cousin of one of the civilians had joined some UG group and went across the international border few years back and now he wanted to come back to his hometown but was struck in Myanmar.
Jwalamukhi Bn started to build on the input and a team of one officer, one JCO and 10 other ranks of COB Motbung was formed, so that necessary help could be provided to the UG cadres to come across.
The team contacted the cadre's family and were taken into confidence, after which his family members assured him that nothing will happen if he comes across and surrenders, it added.
The release continued that the company commander was able to convince some others with him to give up the arms and lead a peaceful and happy life.
Through these cadres, the Jwalamukhi Bn team contacted families of many other UG cadres and was able to persuade them to ask their wards to surrender and also helped some of them to come across the border.
Subsequently, a total of 11 UG cadres surrendered to Jwalamukhi Bn at Motbung Post with arms, explosives and other war like stores on Thursday.
After initial questioning, the cadres were given free medical health check-up and foods and Were handed over to 7 Manipur Rifles along with weapons and war like stores for further investigation and follow-up actions, the AR statement said.
