Union home minister Amit Shah arrived here on Thursday on a two-day visit to the state during which he will inaugurate several projects, lay foundation stones for many others and distribute appointment letters to newly recruited staffers of different departments.
Amit Shah arrived around 7 pm in an Indian Air Force aircraft after attending multiple election campaign rallies in Tripura.
Amid tight security measures, the union home minister was accorded a warm welcome at Imphal international Airport by chief minister N Biren and his council of ministers, MPs, MLAs and senior officials of the government.
From the airport, Amit Shah went to Hotel Classic Grande, where he will stay the night.
On Friday, he will unveil the statue of Sagol Kangjei player at Ibudhou Marjing Complex, Heingang followed by inauguration of Manipur Olympian Park at Sangaithel.
The main event will be held at Chengei Ground, Moirang.
Prior to the public event, he will dedicate the newly constructed INA headquarters complex, Moirang to the nation and unfurl the tri-Colour.
At Chengei Ground, the union home minister will lay foundation stones and inaugurate several other projects, and also distribute appointment letters to newly recruited staffers of RD&PR department, social welfare department and IRB personnel.
Two short films produced by the state government titled 'War on Drugs' and 'Alternative Livelihood to Poppy Plantation' will also be screened during the event.
In connection with Amit Shah's visit and slew of events lined up, Bishnupur district magistrate Lourembam Bikram has declared Zero Traffic Zone along the road stretch from Moirang Lamkhai to Moirang Bazar from 7 am of January 6 till the time of departure of the Union home minister from the district.
In an order issued Thursday, DM Bikram directed the public to avoid parking vehicles or travelling along the said route during the aforementioned hours, and cautioned that necessary actions will be initiated against any violators.
Similarly, Churachandpur DM Sharath Chandra Arroju has declared Churachandpur Medical College and surrounding areas as well as the entire route to be taken by Amit Shah from 36 Assam Rifles Headquarters helipad through IB road, Tipaimukh road (Churachandpur College to Churachandpur police station) and Tiddim road (CCpur police station to Kangvai) as No Fly Zone for Drone and UAV from 6 am of January 6 till the time of departure of the Union minister.
