Team CAU attends SuJalam conference

Imphal, January 05 2023:
A team of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal comprising 20 scientists/faculties participated in the international conference "SuJalam, a dialogue on India's indigenous traditions and techniques on water conservation under the broader Indian Narrative one environmental conservation" held from December 27 to 29, 2022 in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
The CAU team was led by its vice chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra, also the working president of the mega event organised by Minis try of Jalshakti, with Deen Dayal Research Institute (DRI), New Delhi and Central Agricultural University as co-sponsors.
The government of Madhya Pradesh co-hosted the event.
The conference, which had a gathering of over 5000 participants as delegates, speakers, entrepreneurs and policy makers at the highest level, was inaugurated MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in the presence of Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's sar karyakarta Suresh Bhaiya Joshi and Dr Anupam Mishra among others.
The plenary session of the conference was chaired by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat while the valedictory session was addressed by civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
In his address, Dr Anupam Mishra stressed on the need for water conservation in all ways and said that the traditional Indian values of conserving water at micro and macro level has to be re-adopted for the benefit of mankind.
The conference was part of a series of events titled "Sumangalam", aimed at presenting the unique Indian concept of securing the purity of the five basic elements of nature namely earth, water, fire, air and space, and attaining a balance between survival and sustainability of life on Earth.
The conference was attended by religious leaders, scientists, thinkers, social activists from different parts of the world and those engaged in seeking solutions based on indigenous thinking.
CAU, Imphal Dean Prof Indira Sarangthem and extension education director Prof Ph Ranjit Sharma also attended the conference as special invitees while Manipur University of Culture vice chancellor Dr P Gunindro and registrar in charge Dr L Surjit Singh participated as guest speakers.
