The Manipur Legislative Assembly today discussed about taking over management part of the Manipur Public Library located near GM Hall in front of Congress Bhavan.
The matter was raised by MLA L Nandakumar in the form of a private member resolution.
Although the library set up many decades back is rung by a society, its manner of managing the library is far from satisfactory.
Reminding that the library got burnt twice, L Nandakumar urged the House to take over management work of the library.
Lending his support, MLA Ibomcha said that the Government should not hesitate to take over the management work as the library compound has been transformed into Sunday market.
Dr I Ibohalbi too supported the private member resolution saying that there would many old books in the library.
Dr Ng Bijoy went a step ahead by suggesting that the Government should take over not only the management work but also the building as well as the plot.
Taking part in the discussion, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated whoever is running the library, they are renting out the compound for seasonal fairs instead of using it for library related purposes.
Stating that the Government would consult experts and Cooperative Department before initiating the process of take over and determine to whom compensation should be paid, Ibobi sought sometime before taking over the management work.
