State's first medical oxygen plant inaugurated

The State's first medical oxygen plant located at Joypur Khunou in Bishnupur district was formally inaugurated by CAF&PD and Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro today.
Speaking on the inaugural function, Minister Okendro said that the establishment of an oxygen plant in the State is a great boon to the people.
The State often faces shortage of essential commodities including life saving drugs and medical oxygen due to frequent economic blockades and landslides along the national highways.
But with the commissioning of this oxygen plant, the State would never face any shortage of medical oxygen in the State in the future, he noted.

Okendro further maintained that the people should strive to become self-reliant by setting up more of industries and enterprises in the State.
The Government is also planning to set up rice godowns in Imphal East and Bishnupur districts to ensure continued supply of PDS items, the Minister added.
Managing Director of Manipur Oxygen Plant Khagemba Sanabam said that the plant is able to produce 400 oxygen cylinders daily, but the total requirement in the State is only 2000 cylinders per month.
Many private hospitals of the State including Shija Hospital, Raj Polyclinic and Sky Hospital have started using medical oxygen produced by the plant.
The authorities of JNIMS have also expressed intention to procure this locally manufactured oxygen, he stated.
Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas was also present during the inaugural function.
