Imphal, February 28 2014 :
For the first time in Manipur, an oxygen manufacturing plant named Manipur Oxygen Plant Private Limited was inaugurated today at Joypur Khunou, Bishnupur district by Education Minister M Okendro.
Speaking at the inaugural function as chief guest, Okendro said that the newly established oxygen plant would provide a big relief to the bandh/blockade-torn Manipuri society.
Manipuri people's fundamental problems would disap- pear if the State is self-sufficient in food grains and there is no shortage of medicines and fuel oils.
New FCI godowns in Bis-hnupur and Imphal East dis- tricts are in the pipeline in line with the Chief Minister's vision to ensure that there is buffer stock of food grains required for 2-3 months.
The problem of transport fuel would go away once the rail-fed depot is commissioned.
It is a joyous day for the people of Manipur as an oxygen manufacturing plant is established in the State for the first time, Okendro remarked.
In his presidential speech, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that more and more educated youth of the State have set their eyes on entrepreneurship.
The New Industrial Policy 2013 provides a lot of entrepreneurs, he added.
Managing director of the oxygen plant Khagemba said that his firm has already started supplying medical oxygen to City Hospital, Shija Hospital, Sky Hospital and Raj Polyclinic.
Due permission for supplying medical oxygen to RIMS and JNIMS would be obtained very soon.
The plant has started supplying oxygen refill cylinders for industrial purposes.
Average monthly combined oxygen requirement of the State for medical and industrial purposes is around 2000 cylinders.
Earlier, oxygen refill cylinders were bought from outside the State at the rate of Rs 2500 per cylinder and the price shot up to Rs 4000 per cylinder at the time of blockades.
But the oxygen plant set up in the State for the first time is supplying refill oxygen cylinders at Rs 700 per cylinder for industrial purposes and Rs 900 for medical purposes.
The plant has capacity to supply the whole State's oxygen requirement for the next 20 years, Khagemba claimed.
