Ten injured in Khangabok violence

Atleast ten persons were injured as irate crowd pelted stones at an examination centre at Khangabok in Thoubal district over alleged disparity of closing time of the ongoing HSLC examination conducted by Board of Secondary School.
The incident occurred at around 12 noon at Pujari Girls High School, Khangabok.
As the students, who appeared for the Science subject came out of the centre with the completion of the exam timing, they allegedly found examination for the same subject was still going on at nearby Khangabok Government High School.
Infuriated over the disparity of closing timing of the examination, parents and students pelted stones at Pujari Girls High School.

Police then fired several rounds of tear gas shell and smoke bombs to disperse the mob wherein six students of New Public School, Khangabok � Orissa, Babina, Ronil, Bungsehwor, Sanathoi, Asha and Razwana of Elida Public Paradise School, Wangbal were injured as they fainted on the ground in the melee.
Another student namely, Chinglen, lady police Constable A Premila and an unidentified person were also hurt in the incident.
The outrage was brought under control at around 1 pm.
Later, high ranking police officers of the district visited the spot.
Member of a Flying Squad team of BOSEM, Ng Akashini, who was present at the school, said that the incident happened due to misunderstanding.
Appealing the general public not to interpret the incident wrongly, Akashini said that the incident happened as final bel was not rung at the same time.
Thoubal ZEO Kh Amuba, who also visited the site, said that candidates of both the examination centres got same duration of examination.
Saying that bells were rung according to the watches of these schools, Amuba also urged the general public not to blow the incident out of proportion.
