Chandel bandh chokes Indo-Burma road

The Indo-Burma road in Manipur's Chandel district remained choked due to the 48 hours 'total bandh' imposed by Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee (CDNKJC) in protest against the proposed acquisition of 600 acres of land near Pallel and for not fulfilling their demands of shifting away the surrendered cadres of KYKL from the district headquarters and transfer of all the Revenue land Records from Thoubal district.
Bandh supporters in large number including women blocked the road leading to Chandel district headquarters near St.Paul's School, Liwachangning and Imphal - Moreh section of National Highway (No.102) at Pallel, H.Kotlenphai, Thamlapokpi and at Saivom village as well as the roads leading to sub-divisional headquarters of the district.
Effigies of chief minister O.Ibobi, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Kakching MLA Y.Surchandra Singh, Tengnoupal MLA D.Korungthang and Chandel MLA St.
Nunghlung Victor were also burnt by the bandh supporters.
Passengers and private vehicles including motorcycles were off the roads, Government offices recorded low attendance at District Headquarters and commercial establishment in and around Pallel were shut down during the bandh.
However, emergency services, religious and people on examination duty were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
There was no report of any violent incidents during the bandh so far.
