9 students injured in clash at Exam Centre

A major confrontation broke out at Khangabok Government High School in Thoubal district today over the issue of allowing some candidates of the ongoing HSLC Examination to write their papers beyond the permissible time duration.
The incident happened when the candidates at Pujari Girls' High School (Khangabok Centre-B) found that the candidates at the adjoining Khangabok Government High School (Khangabok Centre-A) writing their Science papers even after the end of the examination duration.
The students alleged that there was discrimination in the examination by allotting more time to the candidates at Khangabok Centre-A .
The irate students began to pelt stones at Khangabok High School.
However, the police tried to control the mob by firing several tear gas shells and live rounds.
In the melee, eight students of New Public School, Khangabok, and one girl student of Elida Public Paradise School, Wangbal were injured besides one woman police constable.
A flying quad of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) was also present in the area at the time of occurrence of the incident.
A member of the flying squad said that the incident happened due to slight difference in ringing the last bell of the examination at the two centres.
ZEO/Thoubal Kh Amuba also rushed to Khangabok Centre-A and took stock of the situation.
He told media persons that there is no discrimination among the candidates.
Everyone was allotted the same duration, but the unfortunate incident happened due to slight difference in time-keeping.
The students and parents should not take the incident in a wrong way, he added.
From the beginning of the examination, Khangabok Centre has been given extra emphasis from security point of view.
