Governor La Ganesan has paid tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on the occasion of the ideologue's 55th Martyrs' Day, which falls on February 11 .
In a statement, the Governor stated that Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was born on September 15, 1916 in Uttar Pradesh and believed in a self-reliant economy with the village as base and welcomed modern technology adapted to suit Indian requirements.
He also lauded Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya as one of the most distinguished Nationalist political thinkers of modern India.
On the occasion of his 55th death anniversary, the Governor stated that Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya never worked to gain popularity or to be elected as an MP or MLA but worked entirely for the welfare of the Nation and lived a simple life.
"Upadhyaya considered that it was of utmost importance for India to develop an indigenous economic model with man at centre stage", the statement concluded.
