Imphal, February 10 2023:
Expressing deep concern over unabated opening of new private schools and charging of admission and tuition fees at their own sweet will by private school founders, Manipuri Meitei Pangal Social Unification & Upliftment Organisation (MMPSUUO) has drawn the attention of the chief minister and the education minister on the matter.
The organisation also urged both the chief minister and the education minister to look into exorbitant charging of admission and tuition fees by private schools from the academic session 2023-24.According to a statement of MMPSUUO, some private schools in Imphal area charge admission fee for nursery class for the academic session 2023-24 from Rs 1,800 and onwards while some prominent private schools charge admission fee for the same class up to Rs 3,200.Admission fees have been hiked exorbitantly for higher classes and this indeed is a burden for poor parents, the organisation said, adding that private schools are in a race for higher admission and tuition fees amidst government's efforts to bring quality education.
While stressing the need for both CSOs and government to into the matter seriously, MMPSUUO said that there will be no quality education when 80/90 students are jam-packed in a class and private schools race to get admission of 3000-4000 students.
