Imphal, February 10 2023:
Chief minister N Biren has said that nobody can discriminate against the Manipuris in Tripura as the government of Manipur will always stand for their rights and interest.
He made the assurance while at tending the All Tripura Manipuri Convention, 2023 held at Basic Training College Ground (Kumari Tilla) in Agartala on Friday.
Tripura chief minister Manik Saha, BJP North East in-charge and national spokesperson Sambit Patra, Manipur agriculture minister Thongam Biswajit, works minister Govindas Konthoujam, PHE minister L Susindro, MLA RK Imo, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda and vice-president O Lukhoi also attended the convention.
Speaking on the occasion, Biren expressed happiness on meeting the Manipuris in Tripura and conveyed that his government is always on the lookout for the Manipuris in Tripura even though they are in another state.
Nobody can discriminate Tripura Manipuris, he said and urged them to call him personally if there is any issue.
He also assured of visiting or sending a minister or a MLA immediately in case the need arises.
The CM pointed out that Tripura and Manipur share a strong bond with historical records and evidences of inter-marriage between the erstwhile two kingdoms.
This historical relationship will never break, he said while stressing the need for educating the younger generations about the intrinsic relationship between the two states.
Despite the strong sentiment and support for the Manipuris in Tripura, the state government at times find it hard to intervene in the internal issues of Tripura.
This hurdles can be minimised by bringing a BJP government in the state, Biren said and added that the reason for his visit is to make a sincere appeal to the Manipuris in Tripura to support BJP in the ensuing election.
There are also several Meeteis in Assam who used to live in pitiable condition on account of being minority in the state.
With the coming of BJP in power, Biren said he spoke with his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma about the issues concerning the Meeteis.
As a result, Meeteis in Assam are enjoying more benefits than before.
Assam government will soon include Manipuri language in the Assam state services examinations.
Moreover, the Assam CM has agreed to grant special status to the Meeteis in Assam and provide them additional benefits in job, education and development, Biren added.
He further said that during his recent visit in Tripura, he assured of renovating the shrine of Ibudhou Puthiba, and as assured, renovation work has begun.
